Fundamentals update – Q2 2021

Welcome to our latest Fundamentals update, keeping you up to speed with what’s been happening on the Fundamentals area of the website to provide you with access to information on investments directly from our Investments Team.

As a reminder, Fundamentals is designed to keep you up to date with the latest views from the AJ Bell Investments Team, covering the funds and ETFs that the team thinks have the potential to achieve their stated objectives.

Recent changes

Over the course of the second quarter of 2021, there has been one new addition made to the Fundamentals area.

  • Lightman European has been added to provide additional choice within the European equity sector. The fund has a specific focus on value investing, which is not currently covered within the European equity funds on the list.

Since our last update, no funds have been removed from Fundamentals.

Meeting notes

One of the advantages of the Fundamentals service is the regular updates from the meetings the Investment Team has with the underlying fund managers. These will be updated at least once a year and many have been added over the last few months.

Over the quarter, 18 funds have been seen and had their commentary updated. Take a look at the AJ Bell reports on the website to see the latest thoughts of the fund managers, and our assessment too.

AJ Bell reports

Each fund or ETF on the Fundamental service has an AJ Bell report that is updated quarterly. This report contains key information on the fund or ETF such as the latest positioning, performance and risk data, and key information such as charges and ESG data. All of these reports have been updated to help you with your due diligence.

Ryan started his career in 1999 working for an independent financial adviser, progressing to become Head of Portfolio Management at an award-winning advisory firm. Moving on to a global asset management firm as a Fund Manager, he oversaw more than £10bn of multi-asset portfolios, and also sat on the Investment and Global Asset Allocation Committees. After seven years, Ryan joined a small multi-asset boutique managing portfolios for clients all around the world, before joining AJ Bell three years later to help establish our investment capability.
