Welcome, introduction and platform market/business update
Ainslie McLennan, Head of UK Balanced Funds and Fund Manager – Janus Henderson UK
Buildings for tomorrow's world
UK commercial property continues to provide investors with an attractive stream of rental income and diversification benefits. Ainslie McLennan, Co-Manager of the Janus Henderson UK Property PAIF, will discuss the current market environment and her team’s approach of holding a portfolio of relevant, energy efficient and well-connected property assets that companies of today and the disruptors forming tomorrow’s businesses would wish to occupy.
Laura Suter, Personal Finance Analyst – AJ Bell
Are women the untapped investment market?
With fewer women investing than men, Laura Suter will dig into the reasons behind this and outline why the financial adviser community has subsequently become male-client focused. Addressing increasing wealth, the pension gender gap and how important it is for women to have a financial plan, Laura will also discuss what extra efforts financial firms and advisers have been making to target this market and who has been successful.
Guest speaker to be announced
Lisa Webster, Senior Technical Consultant – AJ Bell
Lisa will take a look at tax-efficient ways of passing on wealth via pensions and ISAs. Using case studies she will investigate the planning options for those with lifetime allowance issues, how best to use the generous pension death benefit rules and how and when IHT may apply. She will also consider how to make the most of ISA additional permitted subscriptions.
Cor Hutton, Founder - Finding your Feet
Finding My Hands
Cor Hutton had a 5% chance of surviving her battle with sepsis in 2013. She defied the odds, but surgeons were forced to amputate both her hands and her feet. Within four months of losing her limbs, single mum Cor confounded doctors by walking a mile through Glasgow city centre on prosthetic legs, in a bid to raise awareness of 'Finding Your Feet' - the charity she had set up to help other amputees.
Cor returns to AJ Bell Luminary to tell her story, and describe her experience of becoming the first quadruple amputee to climb Kilimanjaro, and the first Scot to receive a double hand transplant.
